Bilawal calls for water justice, says raised Indus River issue on global forums

PPP chairman says party is Bhutto’s torchbearer, praising Zardari for securing justice via presidential reference.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Thursday said he has fought the case for fair water distribution at the global level and urged the international community to help protect the Indus River, Express News reported.

Addressing a public gathering in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh on Friday, Bilawal said, “I have taken the battle over water distribution to the global stage. I have told the world that we must save our River Indus.”

He added that the issue of water theft by India has been consistently raised during his tenure as foreign minister. “India continues to steal our water, and I have taken on this challenge internationally,” he said.

He added that after five decades of struggle, the people’s court has declared Bhutto innocent, and justice has prevailed.

Highlighting the achievements of the PPP during Zardari’s presidency, Bilawal said the restoration of the 1973 Constitution through the 18th Amendment reinstated the vision of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. “Through this amendment, Zardari returned rights to the provinces and honoured the legacy of the Quaid-e-Awam,” he stated.

He also noted that Bhutto was awarded the Nishan-e-Pakistan for his relentless struggle for the rights of the working class.

Touching upon the need for judicial reforms, the PPP chairman said that constitutional courts would ensure equal representation and that the political situation in the country has reached a critical point. He reiterated that the PPP has always raised its voice against terrorism and will continue to do so.
