Peshawar again targeted, rulers needs to re-visit internal external policies

Shamim Shahid

Once again Peshawarities early Monday morning heard sounds of powerful explosions at the time when mothers were preparing children for schools and adults were in hurry for reaching offices and other work places at time. In heart of most sensitive Peshawar cantonments, the miscreants targeted the head quarter of Frontier Constabulary.

According to Capital City Police Chief Dr. Mian Saeed Ahmad it was a suicide attack against the compound which caused lives to three FC personnel and injuries to seven others including a pedestrian tailor master. All four terrorists including a suicide bomber were also eliminated in retaliatory action.

It was not first attack against this particular sensitive compound, as earlier its top Commandant Shaheed Sifwat Ghayur targeted by a similar suicide bomber on August 4th 2010 last. Since that unfortunate day, the compound is highly guarded around the clock. No one can deny the fact that terror and violent acts are order of the day from last two and a half decade throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Since a long the high ups from all security organs are making tall claims and proudly speaking of what they call, “crushing away the terrorists, destablising its network and netting out its top commanders along with facilitators.” Beside others, now relations with neighbouring Afghanistan are also worsening. Afghanistan whereas banned TTP top leadership are sheltering is blamed for each and every terrorist and violent act, doesn’t matter occurring in any part of the country. But Taliban regime is denying its involvement in terror acts and terming it an internal matter of Pakistan.

In according to Taliban supreme leader Mullah Muhammad Omar’s inherited traditions, Taliban rulers are considering banned TTP as their guests. Taliban are claiming that these Pakistani militants are peacefully staying and sheltering in Afghanistan and didn’t involved in terrorists acts directly occurring in Pakistan. On such grounds, they are asking Pakistan to talk for settling issues with these militants. But no one can neglect the fact that banned TTP network exists throughout the country, which is involved in terrorist acts. Afghan Taliban says that Pakistan security agencies needs to realise its responsibilities in this respect.

Whatever are claims, justifications and nature of accusations on the part of both Pakistan and Afghanistan but the ongoing acts of terrorism and extremism is the legacy of so-called Afghan Jihad, fought , funded and sponsored by US led allies from the soil of Afghanistan against former USSR. In the latest phase of this Great Game, the US through well famous Doha Qatar Accord empowered Pakistan’s one-time blue eyed Taliban on August 15th 2021. Pakistan has attached great hopes but Pakistani policy makers had ignored mentality or Psyche of the Afghans, especially hard line religious minded people.

Since August 15th 2021, Pakistani policy makers through one or the other ways made its best to force Taliban for toeing its lines but failed. Now the one-time internationally declared “friendship or partnership” between Pakistan and Taliban converted into hostilities and enmities. Both the sides are at loggerhead. After October second week clashes lead to termination of every sort of diplomatic, trade and social relations between the two neighbouring countries. Afghanistan has initiated work on alternate trade routes whereas Pakistan insisting on action against banned TTP. Taliban, governing Afghanistan denying its involvement or utilization of its soil in terror acts in Pakistan on the grounds of fencing of Pak Afghan border. After fencing of Pak Afghan border it is impossible for anyone over to cross it. Analysts are also endorsing Taliban rulers point of view to some extent.

The issue is very very clear. Both sides are ahead with the decades prolonged mis-trust against each others. Similarly, Pakistani security forces are also in lack of coordinations and understanding on means and methods for tackling the issue of terrorism and extremism, inherited by US lead allies sponsored and financed so called Afghan Jihad. It is the time for leadership in the twin cities of Rawalpindi-Islamabad to revisit its decades old failed, flopped, rotten and outdated policies towards Afghanistan. Similarly, it is the time to recognize political leadership’s capabilities of handling such untoward situation existing both internally and externally. Despite hectic efforts including pressurization of Taliban regime, rulers in Rawalpindi-Islamabad had completely failed in tackling the issue of terrorism, therefore, now it is the time to change the modus oparandi as such issues could easily be sorted out through political ways and means.

The country and its people, especially Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan suffered a lot and they couldn’t afford more bloodshed and unrest. These terrorism and extremism affected people like of Punjab and Sindh deserves peace, tranquility ad stability. It is the time to feel heels of these innocent and helpless people who besides shouldering dead bodies of nears and dears towards cemeteries are also facing worst kind of poverty, unemployment and backwardness.
